The GBC, via Society Moko advocates for policy change in Switzerland: Welcome Black people equally!

Updated: Apr 14, 2022

This week Switzerland, our Coalition through our members, Society Moko via activist Nadra Mao forced their government to vote a motion that will ensure that all Black refugees are welcomed equally, like Ukrainian refugees.

The motion presented is the following:

According to Art. 4 AsylA, Switzerland can protect persons in need of protection for the duration of a serious general threat. Provide temporary protection during a war or civil war, as well as in situations of general violence. Is it planed that third-country nationals who are currently fleeing Ukraine will also be classified as vulnerable? If not, how does the Federal Council justify this decision? What measures are planned? To provide specific assistance to these refugees.

The need for protection and hardships of war should not be decided according to nationality. When will the Federal Council introduce the 90-day visa-free period for third countries refugees from Ukraine in Switzerland as it is implemented in the EU?

Why are third-country refugees from Ukraine who have no opportunity nor desire to return to their home country excluded from the procedure for protection status S?

Our Coalition wants equal treatment for all people. White Ukrainians and Black people regardless of their country of origins ALL deserve to be protected and welcomed with arms wide open. They are all facing and dealing with the trauma that is fleeing war.

Every single human being deserves access to safety!

We will continue to keep you updated.

We sincerely thank you again for your support from the bottom of our hearts.
